Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is seeking $1.6 million from his daughter, Alexandra Davis, and her mother, Cynthia Davis. On Tuesday, Jones is expected to testify in a trial that began on Monday.
And, on Monday, many things happened.
Paul Wedding of WFAA.com it has a record of the day that is comprehensive and confusing.
The case stems from a 1998 settlement that settled the father’s lawsuit against Jones with an agreement to make substantial payments, in exchange for a broader confidentiality requirement. Jones says Alexandra and Cynthia Davis violated a confidentiality clause. The $1.6 million comes from legal costs he is said to have defended himself against a 2022 lawsuit (pending appeal) from Alexandra Davis seeking to prove that he is her father.
During the announcement, Jones’ attorney, Chip Babcock, said the crime occurred when the father’s lawsuit was filed. Attorney Jay Gray, who represents Alexandra and Cynthia Davis, said that Jones has violated the agreement before, by admitting that Alexandra Davis is his daughter on several occasions.
“Alexandra Davis is the daughter of Mr. Jones,” Gray added during his opening. “Mr. Jones knows she is his daughter.
Gray also called Jones a “champion.”
Gray says: “He knows he is the real father, but now he is determined to get revenge because his real family has suffered.
Cynthia Davis testified Monday. According to Wedding, she cried “several times” while waiting. At one point, the judge adjourned the case for comment; Jones reportedly gave him a “long hug” as he left the witness stand. (Jones was otherwise sitting in the courtroom staring at Alexandra Davis, according to the Wedding.)
Cynthia Davis testified that Jones told her and a friend at a Christmas party in 2019 that he had two daughters, Alexandra Davis and Charlotte Jones, and that he loved them both. Babcock attacked the issue by pointing out that Cynthia Davis did not sue Jones for breach of contract after she shared their secret with a third party.
Also during opening statements, Gray said that in 2017, when Alexandra Davis was about to turn 21, she wanted to talk to Jones for just 15 minutes. Jones’ lawyers indicated that he also wanted 20 million dollars to give up his life completely.
Cynthia Davis testified that her daughter was upset at the time, and that the $20 million figure came from the fact that “Jones had just paid $20 million to an illegitimate child of his son, Jerry Jones Jr.,” according to the Wedding report of the day. .
(If you think this is getting worse, keep reading.)
Jones’ attorneys also argued that Cynthia Davis violated the agreement by providing confidential documents about the father-daughter relationship to Shy Anderson, who was going through a nasty divorce at the time from Charlotte Jones.
Cynthia Davis testified that Shy Anderson had already learned that Alexandra Davis was Jerry’s daughter from someone else. (Sounds like Shy Anderson should testify in this case, because there’s a chance that his knowledge of the relationship extends to Jerry Jones himself.)
And that was just Day One. When Jerry starts testifying today, it could be even more interesting. And to force.
And finally pain. Regardless of the motivations or accusations, there is a father and daughter who have a terribly dysfunctional relationship, which will probably never be normal again.
It won’t be more unusual this week, as the multi-millionaire who owns a 250 billion yacht hopes to prove a point by demanding a measly (for him) $1.6 million from the daughter of his so-called real mother.
It’s amazing that it has come to this. Although Jerry firmly believes that any publicity is good publicity, there is nothing good about this for him, his image, or his reputation in general.
